Creating a Course and Uploading Content: Video Walkthrough

Watch the video below to learn how to create a course and offering with a single content file and no sub-objects to create a simple training course and offering.

Uploading Content

Begin in the Learning Navigator. To create a course, content must be uploaded first to create a Content Object. Different types of Offerings can then be created from the Content Object, allowing you to enroll learners into the course.

Content objects are the individual training materials and details that make up each course offering. Content Objects act as both a repository for training materials and a tool that streamlines the organization, search, and delivery of learning content.

You can create a subfolder to store content and to help organize the learning content. Your newly created subfolder will be included in the folder structure on the left, providing a designated space for uploading content and creating courses.

To add new content that is not already in the system, click on the action icon at the top of the subfolder details screen. A drop-down will appear with a list of the actions that can be taken.

Click on Import Content, then follow the three steps for importing:

  1. Choose Upload Type
    1. Upload File: Upload File allows you to upload multiple file types, including MP4, SCORM files, zipped files, and PDFs.
    2. Upload External Link: Add External URL allows you to add links to websites or third-party content.
  2. Details: Provide details for the content you're uploading. Here you'll also decide if you want it to display as new or not. If Yes is selected a "New" tag on the course tile in the Catalog screen will be displayed, but this is typically only helpful when Self-Enrollment is turned on.
  3. Confirmation

Content Tip: If you're uploading a file, we recommend converting presentations and Word documents to a PDF format before uploading to the LMS.

Create a Self-Paced Offering

A Self Paced Offering is an offering for a content object that is Self-Paced rather than a live Classroom Offering.

To create a self-paced offering with the newly uploaded content, click on Create Self-Paced Offering. A screen will appear to configure a few properties. Fill these out and then click on Create

Publish

Even though the offering has been created, learners can not be enrolled until the content object and offering are published.
To publish the content, click on Publish. The title will change to black and no longer be italicized.
To publish the offering, click on the Self-Paced tab. A list of the self-paced offerings will appear. Click on the name of the offering you created and then click Publish.
Once you’ve published both the content object and the offering, learners can be enrolled in the offering.
